C.J. Maylock is an Ohio author, high school English teacher, and basset hound enthusiast. C.J. grew up loving stories, and that inspired her to pass on that joy to high school students who sometimes care about what she says. When she’s not writing or teaching, C.J. plays way more video games than any adult should, and she creates video essays on YouTube about whatever topic happens to capture her attention that week. She loves the outdoors when it’s not too hot or too cold, and she loves cooking as long as the dish requires fewer than ten ingredients. C.J.’s favorite stories to write are goofy, heartfelt, and weird enough to make her giggle while she’s typing. With her wife, her basset hound Ducky, and Ducky’s pet snake Waffle keeping her company, she writes these kinds of stories because she loves making people laugh, smile, and wonder what was going through her head when she wrote them. She believes that laughing and spreading joy are the best ways to make life enjoyable. Red Fern Press will publish C.J.’s debut novel, The English Department vs. Chaos and Nonsense in the spring of 2027. You can learn more here.
